Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Reduce apple cider in a saucepan until it thickens (about 1/2 cup). Let cool.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in buttermilk, vanilla, and reduced cider.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Chill dough for 30 minutes.
  7. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.
  8. Fry in oil at 350°F for 2 minutes per side until golden.
  9. Toss warm donuts in cinnamon sugar mixture.
