Description
A classic double crust apple pie with a flaky pastry and sweet apple filling.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled
- 6-8 tbsp ice water
- 6 cups thinly sliced apples
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, diced
Instructions
- Mix flour and salt in a bowl.
- Cut in chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
- Divide dough into two equal parts and chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out one dough half and place in pie dish.
- Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
- Pour apple mixture into pie crust and dot with diced butter.
- Roll out second dough half and place over filling.
- Crimp edges and cut slits in top crust.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool before serving.

- Use firm apples like Granny Smith for best texture.
- Chill dough for easier handling.
- Brush crust with egg wash for extra shine.
