Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, diced


Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cut in chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
  4. Divide dough into two equal parts and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out one dough half and place in pie dish.
  7. Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  8. Pour apple mixture into pie crust and dot with diced butter.
  9. Roll out second dough half and place over filling.
  10. Crimp edges and cut slits in top crust.
  11. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Cool before serving.
