A warm and spiced gingerbread cake perfect for the holidays or any cozy occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and molasses, mixing well.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and hot water to the wet mixture, mixing until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool before serving.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra flavor.
